Tabata workout sessions last four minutes in length, but they are extremely intense. Created by Japanese scientist Dr. Izumi, Tabata training focuses on 30-second bursts of work with 10-seconds of rest. It promotes loss of fat, improvement of physical fitness levels and developing lean muscle mass. Body weight exercises are combined with cardio and weight work.

Power Intervals

Running, biking, rowing and moves like squats are used for power interval training to increase strength, power and endurance. Ninety seconds of work should be used with 30-seconds of rest. The whole workout can last anywhere from four to 30 minutes. Your trainer will encourage you to work as hard as you can for that time frame. You want to get your heart rate up so more oxygen is delivered to the body.
